Ultimaker’s Gift To Help “Enable The Future.”

For the past year and a half, Ultimaker, creator of some of the top recommended 3D printers in the world, has been generously supporting the e-NABLE Community through numerous donations of Ultimaker 2’s to some of our top designers and volunteers. They have also been providing their machines for use at events where e-NABLE volunteers are in need of 3D printers during presentations, donating filament materials, printing hand kits for events, hosting hand building info workshops and sharing stories from the e-NABLE Community through beautiful videos produced to showcase the work of our global village.

Erik de Bruijn, founder of Ultimaker, has been assisting the community behind the scenes, working on improving the “Hand-o-matic.”  This is a program that helps to provide accurate measurements for those seeking to print an e-NABLE device for themselves or someone else.

Today, I am proud to announce that Ultimaker has chosen to expand their support of this amazing e-NABLE Community and become the first official sponsor for this website! Their sponsorship will help cover the cost of upkeep and time devoted to collecting and documenting the open-source information and stories being shared here for those who are seeking help in obtaining or creating an upper limb 3D-printed assistive device.

This is a privately owned website operated by myself, Jen Owen – previous partner of Ivan Owen, who co-created the first 3D printed hand for a child in South Africa in 2013.  The support of companies like Ultimaker and individuals who would like to sponsor this website makes it possible for me to devote myself full-time to maintaining this valuable community resource.

Jen, Torrae and Ivan Owen with 3D printed e-NABLE hands created on their Ultimaker 2 that was generously donated to them by Ultimaker in 2014 to help provide hands to those in need.

Thank you Ultimaker – for your continued support, generosity and faith in our community’s work and for valuing the efforts of our global family as we strive to inspire creativity, collaboration, and hope to all who come by these pages.

Sometimes the community is blessed by companies who are eager to find a way to help assist the volunteers through donations of materials, 3D printers, hosting of workshops, fundraisers and hand-a-thons or by printing hand kits for distribution to underserved areas.

Thank you for believing in us!

“Since the very first time Ultimaker saw the light of day, we have supported open source. We shared our source files and our community gave us feedback…it is our firm’s belief that sharing knowledge does not mean losing knowledge. On the contrary, we learn from each other, inspire each other and use each other’s knowledge to create even better products and develop impressive innovations world-wide.” – Ultimaker
