A Hand For Karuna

“Use those talents you have. You will make it. You will give joy to the world. Take this tip from nature: The woods would be a very silent place if no birds sang except those who sang best.” – Bernard Meltzer

A few days ago, Karuna went to visit Frankie at his lab at the University of Milwaukee where he was fitted with his first “Mech-En” “Cyborg Beast”  hand.

He got to watch the 3D printer print out some parts, got to see how the laser cutter works when Frankie engraved his name into the closed cell foam padding that would eventually line his gauntlet and then found himself pressing finger tips against “fingers” he had never had before.

The work that Frankie and his team are doing for children like Karuna and Shea is still in the research and development process and far from “perfect” but the purpose of the E-Nable group is focused more on coming up with stronger, safer, more user friendly designs and inspiring a global effort to “Lend a hand” and reach out into your own local communities and help your neighbors.

If you have a 3D printer and would like to help make parts for children and adults who could use these devices, if you are a parent of a child that would like to try one of our mechanical hands or if you are the type of person that likes to design, create, innovate and use your talents for the greater good – please ask to join our Google+ Group.

Everyone in the group has their own gift to contribute.

Some are taking on the creation of the hands, some are working on design improvements, some are focusing on researching different materials, some people are test printing parts, some folks are reaching out to businesses and sponsors that may want to contribute materials to create hands for people, some are focusing on organizing and “Keeping house”, some are more talented at just plain encouraging everyone else and together we make the “Tree” sing.

E-nable is starting to feel more like a family – we are just spread out across the globe!

We would love to have you join us in making a difference!
